POPSS SYNDROME

CAUSES (ETIOLOGY) AND PRECIPITATING FACTORS:

Exact etiology of POPSS syndrome is not known. Several different causes are mentioned like        infection, impaired circulation, venous congestion and nerve entrapment. In out series we feel        that the majority of our patient's problem can be explaioned as tendonitis (enthesopathy).

Ninety-three (46%) patients gave history of lower abdominal surgeries, most common being        hysterectomies, C-sections, bladder suspenions. Nineteen males gave history of previous
       groin hernia surgeries. (Graph 1)

"Think of POPSS when presented with enexplained dyspareunia, especially when present after
        hysterectomy and bilateral salpino-oophorectomy."
